Social entrepreneurship, or rather social economy, is a huge topic of modern time. Social entrepreneurs do business with the idea that through profit which they acquire they achieve a specific social mission. Social entrepreneurs invest a part or all of the profits from business into the development of the community through employment of people who have a hard time finding work (people with disabilities, young people, women, people over the age of 50, the Roma community, etc.), development of social and medical services, education, preservation of the environment, cultural activities in the communities and other.
Social entrepreneurship can activate unused potentials of the community and improve the status of persons with special need for the support of the community. Social entrepreneurship can have a great impact in decreasing unemployment, especially with socially endangered groups.
The project “Development of social entrepreneurship in Rasina district” has a goal of providing an encouraging environment for the development of this form of business in Serbia, mainly in Rasina district. Since the topic is relatively new and that it is not widely known, we can say that this project has the characteristics of a pilot-project, and all information and experience gained will be shared by the project partners with other local communities, development agencies, civil society organizations, and to any other interested party which show interest doing the same project in other parts of Serbia.
The project is being implemented by the Agency for regional development of Rasina district and Citizens’ Association for the Support of European Integration “Evrokontakt” from Krusevac, and it is financially supported by Development agency of Serbia through the program for support of projects for economic development in 2017.
